Momani: We hope that peace will return to Syria

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - State Minister for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani voiced hope that peace will return to Syria, and that the Syrian people will enjoy security and stability.

Momani added in the weekly program "News and Dialogue", that was broadcast by Jordan Television and Radio Jordan early on Thursday, that Syria "deserves every positive efforts that puts an end to fighting and preserves the safety of its citizens as well as the country's territorial integrity".

The minister voiced deep sorrow and concern for what is happening in the Syrian city of Aleppo, stressing the need for concerted efforts by all to end the humanitarian catastrophe in the city.

Jordan, he added, will continue its diplomatic efforts at the Arab and international levels to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis that ends the suffering of the Syrian people.

On Syria's absence from the Arab Summit that will be held in March, Momani said that when the Syrian crisis began, the Arab League took a decision to suspend Syria's membership that was followed by another decision to withdraw the ambassadors. "We were committed to the first decision, but we requested that Jordan be excluded from the second decision like Algeria and Lebanon as we have common interest with Syria," he said, adding that the Arab League accepted that.
