Ammon News - AMMONNEWS – Aramex announced that two of their veteran and inspiring runners achieved yet another triumph during the Austria Ultra Marathon 2009. Salameh Al Aqra and Mohammed Al Suwaiti respectively won 1st place for the sixth time and 6th place for the third time during the marathon, which was held in the city of Gaming, Austria, on the 20th and 21st of June.
The Austria Ultra Marathon is considered to be one of the toughest mountain footraces in Europe and one of the most competitive races on the international scene. The event regularly garners worldwide interest, drawing over 1,400 participants from across Europe and other countries around the world this year.
On this occasion Al Aqra and Al Suwaiti expressed their pride and honor with this success which they considered as an achievement for both Jordanian and Arab athletes, “Our participation in the Austria Ultra Marathon offered us a unique experience at both; the athletic and personal levels, by giving us the opportunity to compete with some of the world's most prominent international runners and fulfill what we have been working very hard to achieve”. They also expressed their appreciation for Aramex's invaluable and ongoing support, which has played a pivotal role in enabling them to achieve notable results in some of the most competitive races worldwide.
Commenting on this achievement Mr. Raji Hattar, Aramex Chief Sustainability and Compliance Officer, expressed the company's pleasure with this accomplishment, which served to confirm that Jordan holds exceptional athletes worthy of support and encouragement for all their hard work, perseverance and sportsmanship.
Aramex has been providing different aspects of support to its Jordanian runners since 2000, allowing them to further their athletic aspirations and careers, and achieve advanced results on the various regional and international arenas, which is in line with Aramex's programs dedicated to supporting young athletes and encouraging them to practice sports professionally.
It is worth noting that Al Aqra and Al Suwaiti won 3rd and 58th place respectively in the Marathon Des Sables 2009, which the two runners participated in for the fourth consecutive year and which was held between the 26th of March and the 6th of April 2009. Dubbed 'the toughest footrace on Earth', the Marathon spans 202km, is renowned for its highly competitive atmosphere, and features challenging and dangerous stages infamous for their difficult geographical and climatic conditions.
