Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister, Abdullah Ensour, on Monday, said the cabinet approved the Lower House of Representatives' electoral draft law for 2015 that eliminates "one-person, one-vote" electoral system and adopts open-list proportional system, which was applied in 1989.
According to the new law, the voter is to cast his/her vote first for one list and then vote for a number of candidates, the prime minister said in a press conference held at the Royal Cultural Center.
According to the draft law, the number of members of the House of Representatives has been reduced to 130 deputies instead of 150, Ensour noted.
Ensour underlined efforts of His Majesty King Abdullah II to promote democracy in the Kingdom, noting directives of the King included in the Letter of Designation and the Speech from the Throne.
The premier stressed the need to represent all segments of society away from ethnic and sectarian norms, expressing confidence that the new law would be a historic one that represents all citizens' political orientations.
He noted the role of "any" government in ensuring " clear " elections, indicating that his government had held parliamentary and municipal elections without any interference.
