Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - A group of prominent members of the Los Angeles Jewish community, some with ties to Hollywood, have signed an open letter in support of President Barack Obama's proposed nuclear deal with Iran, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The open letter, written by the group who identify themselves as "American Jewish supporters of Israel", was published on Thursday as a full-page ad in L.A.'s edition of The Jewish Journal.
In the letter the group urged Congress to approve the nuclear deal agreement, claiming that it "is in the best interest of the United States and Israel."
"We appreciate that many have reasonable concerns about the risks of a complex nuclear weapons development agreement with an untrustworthy adversary like Iran," the letter stated, as cited in the Hollywood Reporter. "We too hold these concerns, but the deal that was reached is not founded on trust; it is grounded in rigorous inspections and monitoring."
The letter warns that killing the deal, as many Republican lawmakers have pledged to do would be a "tragic mistake."
Among the seven lead signatories are Walt Disney Concert Hall architect Frank Gehry and legendary TV writer-producer Norman Lear.
