Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Norwegian Ambassador to Jordan Cecil Priya said her country sees Jordan as a "crucial country" in the region and cited reciprocal visits of Crown Prince of Norway and His Majesty King Abdullah II.
On the occasion of her country's National Day which falls on Sunday, she also noted the points of convergence between the two Kingdoms, saying Norway understands the challenges facing Jordan in a region beset by chaos and turmoil.
Norway is continually trying to support Jordan to mitigate the impact of the Syrian refugees on Jordan and is the sixth largest donor to these refugees in the Kingdom. It has been also carrying out projects and programs in the areas of democracy, human rights, the empowerment of women and media.
As an oil rich country, she said, Norway has some joint projects with Jordan in the fields of renewable energy, particularly the solar power plant in Ma'an governorate in southern Jordan, as well as environment-friendly irrigation projects using treated water in Aqba governorate.
Also, she spoke about the Daesh terrorist group and said it is a major challenge for Norway and the all European countries as a whole, as the group sought to recruit frustrated and non integrated young people in the western countries who were born and raised there.
On the occasion of Norway's National Day, she said instead of a military celebration on this day, several members of the House of Representatives suggested to have a parade for children who are the symbol of democracy and hope for the future.
