Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Majesty King Abdullah II will on Wednesday start an official visit to Ottawa, Canada's capital, during which he will meet with the Governor General of Canada, David Johnston, Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and a number of senior officials.
Both sides will discuss bilateral relations and ways to boost them in various fields, in addition to the latest regional and international developments.
The royal visit to Canada comes at a time when relations between the two countries are developing in the trade and economic fields, especially after the mutual free trade agreement came into effect in late 2012.
Jordan and Canada are associated with a number of agreements on investment, labor and environmental issues.
Jordan's ambassador to Canada, Bashir Al Zoubi, told Petra that the royal visit is important in terms of developing and consolidating the historical ties between the two countries for more than fifty years.
He added that the visit, which is the fourth such visit of His Majesty the King to Canada, reflects the depth of bilateral relations, and the Kingdom's prestigious status in Canada, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, for its supportive stances of peace, security and the fight against terrorism and extremism in the region and the world.
Al Zoubi noted the cooperation between Jordan and Canada in the field of scrapping anti-personnel mines, as Jordan is the first and only Middle East country which has been working to get rid of these mines since 2012, and is keen to participate in the Ottawa treaty conference to ban anti-personnel mines effectively.
