Sewage in Aqaba Bay prevents people from swimming

18-07-2009 03:46 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS — The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) on Thursday closed the northern and central beaches of Aqaba to the public as a precautionary measure after the leakage of 500 cubic metres of sewage into the sea.

ASEZA Deputy Chief Commissioner Belal Bashir said the leakage was due to a break in the main sewage pipeline in the area, adding that technical teams are working on fixing the fracture in the pipeline.

Hotels warned citizens and tourists off swimming in the sea till the problem is over.
