04-01-2015 11:47 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan and China will sign an agreement in mid-January to set up a Jordanian-Chinese technical university along the lines of the Jordanian-German University, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Amin Mahmoud, announced on Sunday.

Mahmoud told the Lower House finance committee that Jordan had carried out year-long negotiations with the Chinese side to seal the agreement, adding that in the new university, students will have to spend one year of their study in China.

He did not say where the university will be built but stressed the aptitude for higher technical education.

The minister said 330,000 students are currently enrolled in Jordanian state universities, 56 per cent of whom are studying in humanities colleges.
