Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan has disclosed plans to purchase natural gas from Israel.
The government said Jordan would procure up to 300 million cubic feet per day of gas from Israel’s offshore fields.
The gas, purchased from the U.S. firm Noble Energy, would come from Israeli fields in the eastern Mediterranean and supplied to Jordan’s National Electric Power Co.
“We will receive large quantities of gas from Israel, Cyprus and the Gaza Strip,” Jordanian Energy Minister Mohammed Hamed said. “The liquefied natural gas terminal, which will be ready early 2015, will also boost our reserves of gas.”
In an address on Sept. 25, Hamed said the Israeli gas would be imported from late 2017. The minister said the fuel would save Jordan more than $1 billion in energy bills.
