Jordan king abuse case postponed in Kuwait

25-03-2014 03:50 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - A court in Kuwait on Tuesday postponed the trial of former lawmakers to April 22 to summon the foreign ministry undersecretary.

The foreign ministry had filed the case against ex-MPs Musllam Al Barrak, Mubarak Al Waalan, Salem Al Namlan and Abbas Al Shaabi for allegedly disseminating false and misleading information about the situation in Kuwait with the purpose of undermining the country’s interests, for unlawful assembly in violation of the public order and for participating in an illegal demonstration. All defendants have denied the charges.

Al Barrak also faced charges of making false claims about Jordanian King Abdallah II sending troops to Kuwait in 2012 to quell demonstrations organised by the opposition to call for revoking a decision that amended the 2006 electoral law.

Al Barrak’s allegations about the presence of Jordanian troops in Kuwait to suppress demonstrations were dismissed as “untrue” and “lacking credibility” by the Kuwaiti foreign ministry.
