Ammon News - WAFA – Vandalism by Israeli settlers in the West Bank was the focus of the Friday issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.

The papers reported mainly on the firebomb attack against a home in the village of Sinjil, threatening the life of an entire family and causing five children to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam highlighted this story as their main front page story while al-Hayat al-Jadida, which also reported on this story, made the Israeli decision to speed up settlement construction as its main top front page story.

The papers also highlighted statements by President Mahmoud Abbas in which he said that he is determined to establish the independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Al-Ayyam printed an article by its correspondent on documents from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) which said that the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat proposed to accept the two-state solution in 1977 and that he did not trust the late Egyptian leader Anwar Sadat so he wanted to be in direct contact with the US.

It also quoted Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat saying that the resignation of the negotiating team is under review.

Al-Quds quoted incarcerated leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine Ahmad Saadat saying that many ill prisoners held in Israeli jails are facing death.

It said in another story that the cut in power in Gaza is worsening human rights cases.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the people of the Jenin area town of Yabad are wondering what else would Israel do to them after cutting down more than 100 of their olive trees.

It quoted the head of the anti-corruption authority, Rafik Natsheh, saying that a Jordanian court ordered to hand over a wanted person charged with embezzling more than $13 million.
