Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Lower House of Parliament on Sunday returned the Judiciary Independence draft law to the government after it was also rejected by the Upper House, the Senate.

The government had endorsed draft amendments to the Judiciary Independence Law in May in response to the 2011 constitutional amendments, which affected articles 27 and 98 of the law regarding the independence of the judiciary branch.

The ratified amendments transferred authority to appoint judges from the Cabinet to the Higher Judicial Council, measures that according to government officials allows the judiciary to operate without executive branch intervention.

The House also decided during its session on Sunday to refer the Jordan Construction Contractors Association draft law as referred by the government to its legal committee.
