King, Maldives president discuss bilateral, pan-Islamic issues

Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) – His Majesty King Abdullah II and visiting Maldives President Mohamed Waheed Hassan on Tuesday discussed cooperation between the two countries and ways of cementing ties in economic, health, education and medical tourism fields.

On regional issues, the King said the Palestinian-Israeli peace process is the top regional issue, pledging that Jordan would not spare any effort and would work with all influential powers to relaunch negotiations based on the two-state solution.

The talks also tackled the Syrian crisis and its fallout on the region, as the King reiterated Jordan's support of a political transition to stop the violence and bloodshed and safeguard Syria's unity.

King Abdullah and the Maldivian president also discussed issues of concern to the Muslim world and bilateral coordination to highlight Islam's true values of tolerance.

The Maldivian leader hailed King Abdullah's efforts to solidify cooperation among Muslim countries and support pan-Islamic causes, as well as his tireless efforts to bring about peace and stability in the region and forge ahead with reforms and development at home.

He pointed to the Royal Discussion Papers and the King's reform vision, which the documents outlined.

The Maldivian president invited the King to visit his country and said the Maldives is interested in forging closer ties with Jordan in economic and other fields through the exchange of expertise and the exploitation of resources available in both countries.
