14-05-2013 11:32 AM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Families of Jordanian prisoners and detainees in Israeli prisons held a solidarity demonstration in front of the Turkish Embassy in Amman on Tuesday, calling for a Turkish intervention to seek the release of prisoners, who went on a hunger strike since the beginning of the month.

The Jordanian Youth Campaign to support detainees, in cooperation with "Engineers for Palestine and Jerusalem," will also hold a solidarity event on Tuesday evening at the Jordanian Professional Associations' Complex in Amman at 5:00 PM to express solidarity with the Jordanian detainees on a hunger strike for 14 consecutive days.

The two events will include speeches and discussions with prisoners' families, released former detainees, and activists.

The events come in part of the "Raj'een" (We Shall Return) Campaign launched by the Jordan Engineers Association and the Jordan Agricultural Engineers Association this week.

It is noted that the Jordanian professional syndicates are active in defending causes related to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, defending Jerusalem and occupied territories, an spearheading the campaign to boycott Israeli products and reject any means of normalization with the Jewish entity.

About 24 Jordanian nationals remain imprisoned or detained in Israel. They went into a hunger strike on May 1st to demand the Jordanian government to take serious measures to secure their release and pressure Israel to improve their conditions in the jails, and facilitate family visitations.
