Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) Jordan has urged the international community to shoulder its responsibility and give more aid to help it provide the necessary services to Syrian refugees.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh made a statement to that effect during a meeting with European Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response Kristalina Georgieva.
Judeh also spoke about the humanitarian ramifications of the ongoing influx of Syrian refugees into the Kingdom, which now hosts more than 530,000 people from the war-ravaged country.
The minister thanked the European Union (EU) for supporting Jordan and the Syrian refugees.
The EU Commissioner said the appreciated the humanitarian role that Jordan played by hosting Syrian refugees and providing them with the necessary services.
Furthermore, Georgieva noted that the EU had disbursed the €100 million it had pledged during a recent donors’ conference in Kuwait. She added that the would grant an additional €65 million for Syrian refugees in Jordan and other neighbouring countries.
Georgieva also called on the international community to help Jordan deal with the repercussions of hosting the Syrian refugees.
