Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Angry youth attempted to storm into the Israeli Embassy in Amman on Wednesday night in reaction to what they considered continued and escalated Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem.
Police and gendarmerie forces prevented over 20 protesters from reaching the Embassy building, located in Al Rabiyah district in Western Amman, late on Wednesday.
Protesters denounced Israeli aggression in the occupied territories, citing Israeli forces allowing Jewish settlers to storm into Al Aqsa Mosque while at the same time preventing Muslim worshippers from both genders under the age of 50 from entering the mosque.
The protesters called for expelling the Israeli Ambassador to Jordan, Daniel Nevo, and shut down the embassy and cut diplomatic relations with the occupying entity.
They also called on the Jordanian regime to annul the 1994 Wadi Araba peace treaty between Jordan and Israel.
The protest comes hours after the Lower House of Parliament voted unanimously to strain diplomatic relations with Israel by asking the Israeli ambassador to leave the kingdom, and recall Jordan's Ambassador in Tel Aviv, Walid Obeidat.
The government took action on Wednesday in reaction to the developments in occupied Jerusalem. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Israeli Ambassador and requested him to relay to his government Jordan's denunciation of Israeli actions in Al Aqsa Mosque and religious sites.
