Interior minister, Canadian envoy discuss Syria, refugees

07-05-2013 05:18 PM

Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) Minister of Interior and Minister of Municipal Affairs Hussein Majali discussed with Canadian Ambassador to Jordan Mark Gwozdecky on Tuesday supporting Jordan to help it weather the hardships caused by the exodus of Syrian refugees.

The two also discussed the repercussions of the Syrian crisis at the local, regional and international levels.

Majali said the growing number of Syrian refugees, who cross into the Kingdom on a daily basis, have taken its toll on Jordan’s education, health, infrastructure and labour market. The refugees, he added, increase pressure on already exhausted resources and aggravate unemployment among Jordanian youths.

The minister also spoke about the Jordanian-Canadian partnership, calling for closer cooperation in various fields to serve the two peoples' interests.

The Canadian envoy thanked Jordan for its role in easing the suffering of Syrian refugees, despite the economic and financial hardships the Kingdom is suffering from.
