"Syrian crisis reached unprecedented levels" King tells Biden

27-04-2013 10:12 PM

Ammon News - WASHINGTON (Petra)--His Majesty King Abdullah II met on Thursday with US Vice President Joe Biden to discuss bilateral ties and the latest developments in the Middle East, especially the repercussions from the Syrian crisis.

His Majesty reiterated that the danger of the Syrian crisis has reached unprecedented levels and warned of its catastrophic consequences on the future of the entire region, if it continues.

The King also touched upon efforts to achieve peace in the region based upon the two-state solution. His Majesty affirmed the vital role of the US in supporting these efforts and help Palestinians and Israelis to return to the negotiating table to achieve a solution leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on Palestinian national soil, so they might live in peace and security alongside Israel.

The US vice president voiced his appreciation for His Majesty's efforts to achieve peace and enhance security and stability in the region. Biden said Washington understands the large burden shouldered by Jordan, as a result of the continuing influx of Syrian refugees in increasing numbers that have surpassed Jordan's capabilities and limited resources.

For his part, Biden reiterated his country's interest to bolster ties with Jordan and continue coordination and consultations on all issues.

The meeting was attended by His Highness Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah.
