Sandstorm hits Jordan, blocks some desert highways

AMMAN –– A sandstorm hit several parts of the Kingdom on Friday, causing low visibility at desert highways, accrrding to the Public Security Department (PSD).

The PSD media office indicated that the dust storm blocked the desert highway that connects the Jafer area with the southern city of Maan as well as the highway between Azraq and Omari, which the border crossing with Saudi Arab east of the Kingdom.

The unexpected sandstorm also hit Palestine and Israel.

The dusty weather forced US President Barack Obama, who is visiting the region, to travel by motorcade rather than helicopter from Israel to Bethlehem's Church of the Nativity, according to news agencies. (Jordan Times)
