Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Riots erupted on Thursday in central Ma'an governorate, in southern Jordan, by candidate supporters following the announcement of the final election results.
Riots also erupted in Madaba, with protesting supporters of a candidate using automatic weapons and fired heavily in the air, before blocking the major road between Madaba and Dhiban district.
In Ma'an, a young man was injured as security and gendarmerie forces attempted to disperse crowds protesting the election results.
Heavy firing of tear gas was witnessed throughout the city in an attempt to break up the riots.
In Mohammadiya district, 15 km from Ma'an, a vital desert highway was blocked by protesters who blocked the Mohammadiyah triangle intersection, and caused a major traffic delay.
Rioting young men burnt tires and threw rocks in protest of the parliamentary election results in the southern badia, blocking both directions on the main desert highway leading to Aqaba.
Rioters fired gunshots in the air, and used live ammunition to deter passers-by.
RIots also erupted in the southern governorate of Karak, in the town of Kathraba in 'Ayy district in protest of the election results.
The events come a day after Jordanians cast their ballots to vote-in members of the 17th Lower House of Parliament.
