AMMONNEWS - Riots erupted in the southern governorate of Karak on Saturday with angry residents protesting the poor conditions of street infrastructure and lack of repairs in the town of Mu'tah.

Young men protested on Saturday and burnt rubber tires blocking main roads in the town to express their dismay at the municipal conditions.

Residents have been voicing complaints about the conditions of the town streets, noting that contractors working on infrastructure work for over two years did not fix the damages caused to the local streets, causing major problems for drivers and pedestrians.

Local residents Malik Qarralah and Muhammad Sarayrah told Ammon News that Mu'tah residents vowed to resort to escalating measures against the municipality on election day if decision-makers in the governorate do not respond to their demands.

Meanwhile, Director of Southern Affairs at the Ministry of Public Works Bahjat Rawashdeh told Ammon News that the Ministry allocated JD 150,000 to rehabilitate local streets in Mu'tah and Southern Mazar.

He added that the Ministry will announce a bid to companies to repair the roads as weather conditions get better.
