Days after announcing foiling a terrorism plot, and a week after banning its citizen from visiting Lebanon during New Year’s Eve, Dubai has completed its month-long preparations to celebrate the biggest New Year party in the world.
The most prestigious square kilometer in the world, better known as Downtown Dubai, is set to receive tonight about one million people, visitors and residents alike.
They would be looking forward to promising weather conditions and seeing a world record in the making; a feat said to have never been attempted before, the highest fireworks in the world will be synched with a live performance by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, one of Europe’s leading music ensembles.
The iconic fireworks display will envelope the tower in a rich wash of colors and will be appreciated by a million persons around Borj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world to date, and will be broadcast live to 2 billion viewers around the world, as part of the world countdown to New Year’s Eve celebrations, completing what is done in Times Square and other open air events in the world.
In parallel to these preparations, Dubai Police beefed up its security measures around Dubai Downtown and within Metro Dubai, and was urging residents and visitors to use public transport rather than coming by their own cars to the already congested area.
