Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The group of candidates who attempted to run for the upcoming parliamentary elections under a national list with the name "Saddam Hussein" announced on Saturday that it will appeal the Independent Elections Commission (IEC) decision to reject its name.
The attorney of the national list, Fayez Zayadneh, said in statements to Ammon News that his clients vowed to appeal the IEC decision at the Amman Appeals Court.
The IEC's Board of Commissioners had rejected the name of a national list which chose the name of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, although it accepted the applications of the candidates Provided that they change the name of the list.
(IEC ) in its meeting Wednesday decided not to accept the naming or symbols of national lists running for elections that contain proper names, or any name or symbol that could spark sectarian, racial or political strife or is contrary to public order or affect national unity and security.
The IEC on Thursday accepted all the candidacy applications to run for the upcoming elections lists, with the exception of a list which carries the name of the late Saddam Hussein.
The group of candidates running under the national list "Saddam Hussein" also includes on candidate whose name is Saddam Hussein al-Hawamdeh, the head of the list Fayez Zayadna said.
He added that his list vows to fight to partake in the upcoming parliamentary elections, citing that the name of 'Saddam Hussein' was chosen because "people in Jordan loved him."
Meanwhile, an official source at the IEC told Ammon News that the rejection of the list's name is not related to political reasons, but rather because the name of the list includes a "proper name," including the name of one of the candidates running in the list.
The source noted that Candidate number (5) on the list, Saddam Hussein Hawamdeh, caused the Board of Commissioners to reject the name of the list.
The source added that other attempts of national lists to run under proper names were rejected, including a list running under the name "Rola al-Hroub," which is the name of one of the female candidates running on the list.
