FM meets Arab League chief, Egyptian counterpart

Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra)--Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Saturday met with Arab League Secretary General Nabil El Araby and Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohammad Kamel Amr and discussed developments related to the Palestinian issue as well as peace efforts.

Judeh briefed the two officials on the outcome of His Majesty King Abdullah's recent visit to the West Bank city of Ramallah, which reflected the Kingdom's strong support to the Palestinians.

He also reviewed the objective and outcome of his recent visit to Jerusalem and Bethlehem and his meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas last Monday.

The Arab League chief and the Egyptian foreign minister will visit Ramallah today for a meeting with the Palestinian president to congratulate his over the recent historical achievement of the Palestinians at the UN.

They will also discuss the situation in the Palestinians lands and possibilities of arranging a visit for Arab foreign ministers to the West Bank.

The Foreign Ministry took all arrangements for the visit of the two officials to Ramallah today.

The Arab League chief and the Egyptian minister voiced their appreciation for Jordan's efforts under the leadership of His Majesty the King, to support the Palestinians to enable them to regain their rights.

They also voiced their keenness to continue coordination and consultation on issues of the region, mainly the Palestinian cause.

In a joint press statement following the meeting, Judeh said the meeting dealt with efforts to remove obstacles facing a return to direct negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis, leading to the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state on the Palestinian national soil with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Arab League chief voiced appreciation for arrangements made by Jordan for his visit to Ramallah.

The Egyptian minister said he is carrying a message of support from the Egyptian leadership and people to the Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
