Jordan bans imports of cows from Brazil

Ammon News - Amman, (Petra) Jordan on Wednesday decided to ban imports of cows and beef from the Brazilian state of Parana, after confirming a case of mad cow disease.

At a meeting with Brazilian Ambassador to Jordan Renate Stille, Minister of Agriculture Ahmed Al Khattab said it was important for Brazilian authorities to brief the ministry on measures taken to prevent future cases. The ministry's decision, he said, is a precautionary measure.

Jordan imports beef from Brazil for local consumption, while part of it is processed and re-exported.
