AMMONNEWS - Syrian children in the desert camp of Zaatari for Syrian refugees still struggle to live and to hold on to their dreams.

Enduring the mayhem of the ongoing crisis in their hometowns in neighboring Syria, some stay, but many must escape to preserve their lives and dignity. Families take long journeys, often on foot, to head to the Jordanian-Syrian border to cross the barb-wired fence into safety.

The children arrive at Zaatari camp in the eastern Jordanian desert governorate of Mafraq, they are put in camps, first endured the blazing sun of summer, and now the freezing conditions of desert winter.

The children have dreams. Many of them keep dreaming, while others prioritize their dreams to begin with freeing Syria of Bashar al-Assad's regime before they can go back to dream about becoming teachers, doctors, and future leaders of their homeland.

The total number of Syrian refugees in Jordan surpassed 46,000 people, according to the Jordanian Committee for Syrian Refugees.

According to UN, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria is nearing 30,000, in the past two years.

More than 230,000 have become refugees with around three million in need of humanitarian assistance.
