Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Since the beginning of the year and until this week, 10 Jordanians and 50 non-Jordanians residing in the Kingdom were diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, Petra News Agency reported.
According to the ministry’s figures, 919 cases of HIV were registered in the Kingdom so far. Of the total, 260 were among Jordanians.
According to the World AIDS Day Organisation, the day is annually observed on December 1 and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day and the first one was held in 1988.
More than 33.3 million people across the world have HIV. Over 25 million people between 1981 and 2007 have died from the virus, making it one of the most lethal pandemics in history.
According to the World Health Organisation, between 2011 and 2015, World AIDS Days will have the theme of “Getting to zero: Zero new HIV infections. Zero discrimination. Zero AIDS related deaths”.
