Davutoglu had reportedly told the Anadolu news agency that Hamas and Israel had reached a cease-fire deal, but this conflicted with elusive reports about the alleged ceasefire. Fighting raged on both sides of Gaza's borders Wednesday despite intensified efforts across the region to thrash out the truce to end a week of violence that has cost 136 Palestinian and five Israeli lives. Davutoglu left Gaza and crossed into Egypt via the Rafah border crossing following the visit along with his Arab counterparts to solidarity with Palestinians in the face of the Israeli offensive.
