AMMONNEWS- The detainees of Ahrar Tafila Movement sent a letter on Saturday from Jwaideh prison, stressing on the necessity of adhering to a peaceful movement and avoid violence and riots. They have also expressed their thanks to those who stood by their side, especially the protesters who have bore the hardship of travel.
Fadi Abdeen has demanded that the movement should continue maintaining its approach even if the detainees would stay in prison for a longer period of time. He also explained that the ongoing events should not affect them, considering what happened as something normal.
Saed Oran told Ammon News agency in prison that: we call for a peaceful movement in Tafila, and we should not be dragged to chaos. Our goal has always been to call for reform; it is not feasible that the movement will ignore its goals and believes. He also added that “I hope that this message will reach the brothers in the street; we are against chaos and vandalism as they do not serve our cause. The movement also condemns targeting our family in the public security forces; this is unacceptable. The movement is not responsible for the incident of stabbing a police man on Friday”.
While Al-Oran was talking about the inappropriate conditions of his arrest, Yaser Sabayleh and Majde Qabaleen stressed that they were extremely exposed to violence during their arrest, resulting in a number of bruises on the face and nick of Sabayla and some scratches and damage to the sides of Qabaleen.
Regarding the situation of his health, Sabayleh pointed out that he visited a physician and his heath is good now. In this regard, the administration of the prison has stated that it is willing to allow him to see a physician whenever he wants. The detainees have stressed that they receive good treatment in Jwaideh prison and have only been abused when they were arrested. Oran points out that 90% of the treatment they receive is good.
Majdi Qabaleen spoke about the circumstances of his arrest in which was stopped while he was cleaning the main road following the riots that took place in the city by a group of strikers. He also indicated that he was arrested and treated badly in a police station in Karak. Different charges directed to them varying from one place to another until they have been sent to the State Security Court for stirring riots.
The director of the Rehabilitation and Reform Centres, Brigadier-general, Wadah Hmoud on Saturday met a delegation of the protesters who held a strike in front of Jwaideh prison demanding the release of detainees.
The delegation stressed on the necessity of offering the detainees a good treatment by the administration of the prison and they were told by the Brigadier-general Hmoud that they would be treated as regular, not dangerous, prisoners according to the law of the Rehabilitation Centres that instructs the administration of the prison to treat them well.
Regarding the violence that has been experienced by the youth during their arrest, Hmoud stated that the attorney general has instructed that the detainees to take forensic tests. Based on the report that will be issued afterwards, appropriate procedures will be conducted regarding this issue.
The delegation demanded the cancellation of some procedures and details of transferring the detainees from prison to court.
