Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Four people suffered suffocation and 6 cars were set alight when a fire broke out in a truck loaded with 50 gas cylinders in Amman's Sports City neighborhood.
The blaze also engulfed three nearby buildings and a number of shops that also suffered damage.
Official Spokesman of the Civil Defence Department (CDD) Colonel Farid Shara told Petra that civil defence crews rushed to the scene, brought the fire under control and provided first aid to the injured. He added that no deaths were reported as a result of the fire.
Meanwhile, official Spokesman of the Public Security Department (PSD) Lt. Colonel Mohammad Al Khatib said a committee will be formed to assess material damage caused by the fire.
The truck laden with 140 gas cylinders exploded Monday in the Sports City District in Amman, triggering a series of explosions of gas cylinders.
Media spokesman at the Civil Defense Department Colonel Farid Al Shara said no casualties were reported.
He added that four nearby vehicles and a building caught fire after the explosion. Residents of the building were evacuated, he said, adding that the department's cadres are working to put off the blaze.
Strong explosions sound was heard in the area, and flames was seen engulfed in the near buildings, eye-witnesses told Ammon News.
