Kwid confident Wehdat will prevail

18-10-2011 12:00 AM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Al Wehdat coach Mohammad Kwid feels the Jordanians have enough quality at their disposal to overturn a one-goal deficit in the second leg of their AFC Cup semi-final against Nasaf.

Al Wehdat lost the first leg 1-0 in Uzbekistan as Jahongir Jiyamuradov's penalty was all that separated the sides and Kwid stressed they now need to raise their game at King Abdullah International Stadium on Tuesday in order to make the final.

The deficit is a particularly precarious one because if Nasaf were to score a crucial away goal, that would mean the Jordanians have to score three times to go through.

Kwid felt that his side were unfortunate to have lost the first match but accepted that the defeat left his side with an uphill task.

"In the last match, it was possible to come out of it with a better result but we did not have the luck. This led to the players not being able to score a goal but the Uzbek goal gives them a partial advantage in the next game," he said.

"Tomorrow's match is easy and hard at the same time. It will be difficult if the team is unable to turn opportunities into goals or the players do not the required strength, but if the players are in their natural state then the match will be easy for the team."

Al Wehdat's starting line-up will likely feature a number of the Jordan side that continued their fine World Cup qualification campaign last week when they beat Singapore 3-0.

They will also be boosted by the return of Amer Deeb and Kwid feels his men have the advantage over their Uzbek opponents technically but added that he was well aware of just how difficult Nasaf are to break down.

"We are better technically and skill-wise while the Uzbek team is committed tactically and plays with great discipline," he said.

Kwid also backed the notoriously vocal crowd at the King Abdullah International Stadium to get behind his team and spur them on to victory, underlining there was a great atmosphere around the club with fans desperate for a ticket for the crunch clash.

"Everyone is looking forward to tomorrow's match and that there are plenty of fans who are clearly emotional in the atmosphere of the game, some of whom have not slept in several days!" he added.

"This will increase the responsibility on the players and the manager to get the job done and proceed to the final."
