Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan and Turkey on Saturday signed an agreement on the transfer of sentenced persons to their home countries to serve their prison terms.
The agreement, sealed in Ankara by Justice Minister Ibrahim Omoush and his Turkish counterpart Sadallah Ergin, will take effect after going into constitutional channels. It will enable Jordanian and Turkish nationals convicted of criminal offenses to ask for their transfer to their own countries to spend their sentences there.
The aim is to bring those persons closer to their families, a move which will have positive social and economic impact on the convicts and their relatives.
The two ministers also discussed initialing a memo of understanding to promote legal and judicial cooperation and exchange expertise between the two ministries and their agencies, and agreed to set a date for its signing. Omoush, who paid a visit to the Turkish capital, also met the president of Turkey's constitutional court and discussed the prospect of Jordan taking Ankara's 50-year experience in this field.
