Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - A senior Jordanian official stressed that the World Economic Forum summit scheduled to be held at the Dead Sea shores in October will be held as scheduled.
The source added that preparations are underway to conclude all logistical measures to hold a successful summit at the Dead Sea, denying any intention to postpone the summit.
Ammon News had earlier reported that senior Jordanian officials have proposed delaying holding the World Economic Forum in the Dead Sea this year citing the conditions in the region, informed sources said.
The officials also cited that another Summit on the Global Agenda, scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi earlier in October, may affect the attendance of the World Economic Forum - popularly known as 'Davos'- scheduled to convene in the Dead Sea between October 21 and 23, 2011.
Sources told Ammon News that an advisor of King Abdullah II conducted preliminary meetings with Dr. Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, after which Schwab expressed dismay at the issues raised by the jordanian official, and noted his objection to Jordanian leaders.
The World Economic Forum had announced earlier delaying the Sixth Summit on the Middle East that was scheduled to be held in May 2011, rescheduling it to be held in the Dead Sea in October as a special meeting on "Economic Growth and Job Creation in the Arab World."
The rescheduling - at participants' request - came to give a Middle East and world leaders an opportunity to participate in the Forum's sessions, in light of the recent developments in the region.
Bringing together the GCC countries, Levant, Maghreb and international community, the Special Meeting will focus on best practices in economic policy and reform and elaborate concrete ways in which all stakeholders can drive positive outcomes across the region.
The World Economic Forum is a Swiss non-profit foundation based in Geneva, best known for its annual meeting in Davos, in the eastern Alps region of Switzerland.
