Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - 12 Jordanians will travel to the United Kingdom this month to start post-graduate studies funded by the British Embassy’s Chevening scholarships programme.
The successful scholars were chosen to pursue studies in the United Kingdom which will enable them to bring valuable knowledge and experience back to Jordan.
On 4 September the scholars attended a briefing session at the British Council followed by a lunch hosted by the British Ambassador Peter Millett.
He said:
“I was delighted to meet the scholars who will be going to the UK under our scholarships programme. This programme creates exciting opportunities for young people to study in the UK and then return to Jordan with their new-found expertise. I was impressed by the quality of the successful scholars in Jordan this year. In addition to their studies in the UK, they will also experience a dynamic, vibrant and multicultural society and be afforded a very warm welcome.”
The Chevening Programme, the flagship scholarship scheme of the British Government, is a unique development opportunity for exceptional individuals who have been identified as the future leaders, decision-makers and opinion-formers in their respective countries. In Jordan, the Programme began in 1984 and, with the valued and ongoing assistance of co-sponsors, has since sent over 400 Jordanians to pursue their post-graduate studies in the UK.
Jordan remains an important country for the Programme and underlines the UK’s commitment to the bilateral relationship. This year’s group of scholars will study for Master’s degrees in a variety of subjects, including development studies, Business, Environment, law and sports leadership. Applications for scholarships for 2012 will be announced in the Autumn.
