Public works minister reviews ministry's strategy

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Public Works and Housing Yahia Kasabi said that the ministry's strategy for this year and the coming years focuses on constructing road networks maintaining them and ensuring their safety.

In a wide range interview with Jordan News Agency, Petra that was moderates by its Director General Ramadan Rawashdeh, Kasabi said that the ministry also works to connect cities and villages by a modern road network that would contribute to achieving comprehensive economic and social development.

Other projects, he said include development corridors and rings roads around major cities to ease traffic congestion in these cities.

Kasabi added that Jordan has 7500 kilometers of paved roads that connect cities and villages across as well as the Kingdom with neighboring countries, adding spending on this network over the past period stood at JD2.5 billion.

"The ministry has completed the implementation of 10 road and traffic safety projects since 2010 until mid 2011 at a total cost of JD48.3 million," the minister added, noting the ministry will implement until the end of 2011 a number of road projects at a total cost of JD142 million including the Amman Development Corridor.

"Within the program to enhance economic and social productivity, an agreement was signed by the ministries of public works and housing and planning and international cooperation to carry out agricultural road projects in impoverished areas at a total cost of JD2.5 million to job opportunities in those areas, the minister said.

on government tenders, he said the Tenders Department has floated since the beginning of the year until the end of June, 23 tenders valued at JD60.7 million for the construction of government and school buildings, dams and sanitation projects.
