Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Qusay Jarun - Journalists Sunday walked out of a press conference convened by the Dean for Student Affairs at Yarmouk University in Irbid governorate announcing election results for the Student Union Council.
Several incidents overshadowed the conference. The university administration had insulted the Ad Dustour reporter in Irbid, Hazem al-Siyahin, for his coverage of events in the university, and Saif al-Din Bakir, correspondent for al-Sabeel, had been stopped and interrogated during the elections on Thursday by the university security office, despite showing his press security card to security personnel.
The press also complained that Qusay Jarun for Ammon News in Irbid had been mocked and offended by the Dean for Student Affairs, Dr Nasir al-Athmaneh, during his telephone enquiries about elections.
The journalists called on 'Adnan Nasar from al-Arab al-Yawm to speak on their behalf at the conference and demand an apology for their treatment from the head of the university. Journalists from al-Arab al-Yawm, al-Ghad, al-Sabeel, Petra, al-Rai, al-Anbat and Ammon amongst others walked out of the conference within 15 minutes.
