Ammon News - AMMAN Jordan on Wednesday marked the 34th anniversary of the passign away of Her Majesty Queen Alia, who died February 9, 1977.
King Abdullah II and Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein on Wednesday visited the tomb of the late Queen Alia Al Hussein on the 34th anniversary of her passing.
The King and Prince Ali laid wreaths and recited verses from the holy Qur'an.
The late Queen, born in Cairo in December 1948, died in a helicopter crash while returning from an inspection trip to Tafileh Hospital in southern Jordan.
Born Alia Baha Uddin Toukan, Queen Alia married King Hussein in 1971. They had two children: Their Royal Highnesses Princess Haya and Prince Ali.
Active in charity and social work, the late Queen represented Jordanian women at many international conferences, serving as a model for Arab women, supporting Arab women’s causes and their participation in socio-economic development.
In memory of Queen Alia, Princess Haya set up Tkiyet Um Ali, the region’s first food-relief NGO which provides assistance to underprivileged families. (Petra)
