Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan should follow the winds of change in the region with a real reform project, Member of Parliament and spokesperson of the Democratic Assembly Bloc Jamil Nimri said, noting that the Royal designation letter to the Prime Minister-designate Marouf Bakhit has emphasized political reform.
MP Nimri however said that the problem remains in the credibility of the government, he said in statements to Ammon News.
He expressed that the ouster of Rifai's government after 40 days of being awarded an unprecedented high vote-of-confidence is considered a "blow to constitutional institutions." He added that "we understand this move, but it comes at a price: how to regain the credibility to a new government claiming reform?"
Nimri said that the Democratic Assembly Bloc discussed with the parliament and the democratic current in the kingdom their position towards the new government, and will hold a press conference next week after holding more comprehensive dialogues with democratic political and professional association currents to announce their reform proposal.
In response to a questions regarding whether the bloc will grant confidence vote to the new government, Nimri said that it is still early to discuss this matter and the bloc will wait to hear from the designated premier and the government's program.
Nimri noted that the Democratic Assembly Bloc will demand from the Bakhit that the cabinet formation be based on transparency and qualifications, and that the government should hold a dialogue with parliamentary blocs.
He added that the political reform project is no longer credible unless it is tied with constitutional reform, explaining that some political reforms are in need of constitutional amendments including some amendments endorsed in 1952 related to dissolution of the parliament.
