4 injured in Aqaba Phosphate train crash

AMMONNEWS - A train carrying phosphate on Aqaba railway derailed on Thursday injuring four persons.

The two drivers of the train had jumped off before the train derailed, they were later found and rushed to Princess Haya military-run hospital.

33 cargo wagons from the train derailed, causing injuries to four people. The train was heading from Sheidiah to the Port of Aqaba port carrying phosphate.

On his part, Governor of Aqaba Zeid Zreiqat said that the head cart of the train and the wagons crashed when the incident occurred between the fourth and ninth districts on the Aqaba railway.

The governor told 'Ammon News' that at least one of the injured is from the train cadre.

Zreiqat added that the accident did not affect traffic in the area, yet noting that it caused major damages to the train and the railway.
