Ammon News - AMMAN-The Jordanian Gendarmerie has recently joined the Association of the European and Mediterranean Police Forces and Gendarmeries with Military Status FIEP.
Jordan's membership was endorsed during an FIEP meeting in Holland attended by Gendarmerie Director Gen. Tawfeeq Tawalbeh.
The Gendarmerie Directorate joined the FIEP to forge closer ties with world countries in security-related issues and exchange data and expertise, said Tawalbeh in press remarks Monday.
Founded in 1994, the FIEP includes the French National Gendarmerie, the Italian Carabinieri Corps and the Spanish Civil Guard, the Portuguese National Republican Guard in 1996, the Turkish gendarmerie in 1998, the Dutch Royal Marechaussee and the Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie both in 1999, and by the Romanian Gendarmerie in 2002. The Argentinian gendarmerie and the Chilean Carabinieros joined the association as associated members in October 2005.
