Prince Hamzah Hospital Achieves Breakthrough in Pediatric Cardiac Ablation Procedures

29-10-2025 02:03 PM

Ammon News - A specialized medical team at Prince Hamzah Hospital has achieved a significant milestone by successfully performing Jordan’s first cardiac ablation procedures to treat supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) in young children.

The hospital conducted four ablation surgeries on patients aged between 15 months and 7 years, marking a national first for this age group. All procedures were completed without complications, reflecting the advanced expertise of the hospital’s medical staff.

According to Dr. Kifah Abu Tarboush, Director General of Prince Hamzah Hospital, the operations were led by Dr. Yahya Al-Badayneh, Consultant of Cardiac Electrophysiology, in collaboration with the hospital’s pediatric cardiology team. "Performing these complex procedures safely and successfully represents a major leap forward in pediatric cardiac care within the Ministry of Health," Dr. Abu Tarboush said, praising the team’s high level of skill and precision.

He added that this medical achievement underscores the hospital’s growing reputation as a national center of excellence for pediatric cardiac catheterization, and it paves the way for expanding advanced interventional cardiology programs across Jordan’s healthcare sector.

Dr. Abu Tarboush noted that cardiac electrophysiology remains a rare and specialized field, and Prince Hamzah Hospital is currently the only facility in Jordan performing these intricate procedures for children. While the hospital has previously conducted similar interventions for adults, this accomplishment stands out for involving patients as young as 15 months old, representing a pioneering advancement in local medical practice.

Dr. Al-Badayneh, who supervised the procedures, confirmed that all four young patients, aged 15 months, 3 years, 4 years, and 7 years, are in good health following the operations. "The results were highly accurate and free of complications, thanks to the dedication of our multidisciplinary team," he stated.

Both Dr. Abu Tarboush and Dr. Al-Badayneh expressed appreciation for the hospital’s cardiology, anesthesia, and nursing teams, whose professionalism and teamwork contributed to this notable medical success.

This achievement marks a turning point for Jordan’s pediatric cardiac care, highlighting the country’s growing capabilities in performing complex, minimally invasive heart procedures for children.
