Ammon News - Residents of Ajloun Governorate have urged that Wadi Zuqaiq in the Halawa area be incorporated into the Kingdom’s official tourist routes, citing its waterfalls, archaeological heritage, and distinctive environmental assets.

Researcher Mohammed Share' highlighted that the valley is home to mosaics and archaeological remains reflecting the ancient civilizations of the region, in addition to its waterfalls and the heritage village of Karkama. He called for the site’s official inclusion on national tourism itineraries.

Faten Ghazou, head of the al-Sondos al-Akhdar Cultural Association, said the valley is already witnessing vibrant tourism activity and merits placement on the national tourism map. She underscored the importance of leveraging its natural and environmental features, particularly the waterfall area, a key attraction for visitors.

Mutab Najadat, a member of the "Environment Unites Us" initiative, drew attention to the dangers posed by the narrow road leading to the valley, which can accommodate only one vehicle at a time. He stressed the need for expansion and regular maintenance due to sharp curves and difficult terrain that make access hazardous.

Basma Amoush, head of the Shafa Municipality Committee, said the municipality is following up on residents’ demands and working to improve infrastructure and develop services to strengthen the valley’s role as a tourist destination. She emphasized the importance of coordination with relevant authorities to implement projects serving the region and supporting the local community.

Director of Ajloun Tourism Firas Khatatbeh said the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has prioritized Wadi Zuqaiq in its plans to develop rural and eco-tourism, noting that the valley’s natural and archaeological features qualify it to be a prominent stop on official tourist routes.
