Ammon News - The ancient city of Petra witnessed a surge in tourism activity over the past two days, with 4,824 visitors from various nationalities, according to statistics released by the Petra Regional Tourism Development Authority.
The figures showed that the majority of visitors were Jordanians, totaling 3,077, 2,185 were participating in "Urdun Jannah" programme, including 1,044 who stayed overnight in Petra hotels, while 892 were Jordanian visitors who did not participate in the program. This underscores the strong interest among Jordanians to visit the "Rose City" and take advantage of the national program to promote domestic tourism.
The total number of foreign visitors was 1,413, while the number of Arab visitors was 241, and the number of residents within the Kingdom was 93.
Approximately 24 hotels in Petra participated in welcoming visitors as part of "Urdun Jannah" programme, which contributed to enhancing the tourist experience for visitors and supporting the local hotel and tourism sector.
Fares Braizat, Chairman of the Petra Regional Tourism Development Authority, emphasized that the high number of Jordanian visitors participating in "Urdun Jannah" programme reflects its success in boosting domestic tourism and increasing hotel occupancy rates, which has a positive impact on the local community and service providers in the region.
