2.3 million of Jordan's population aged 15–24

Ammon News - Jordan’s population estimates for 2024 indicated that about 2.3 million people, 20 percent of the total population of 11.7 million, are aged 15–24, according to the Department of Statistics (DoS).

In a statement marking International Youth Day on Tuesday, it said the distribution of youth mirrors the overall population spread: Amman 41.6 percent, Irbid 19.1 percent, and Zarqa 14.2 percent, with the other governorates ranging between 1 percent and 5.7 percent. The youth gender ratio stands at 116 males per 100 females.

The adjusted economic participation rate for youth is 21.5 percent (32.5 percent for males and 8.9 percent for females), compared to 65.9 percent for the general population aged 15 and over, according to the data.

Computer use among youth aged 15–19 is 64.2 percent overall, and 47.9 percent for those aged 20–24. Internet use is nearly universal, exceeding 96 percent in all youth subgroups. Literacy among youth reaches 99.3 percent, with 32.7 percent holding a high school diploma or higher, the statistics showed.

Marriage is rare among youth, with 4.6 percent married and 95.3 percent single. Among married women, family planning awareness stands at 27 percent for ages 15–19 and 46.4 percent for ages 20–24, according to the data. Petra
