Jordan records 71 fatalities, 5861 new Covid-19 cases: MoH

The Ministry of Health announced 71 fatalities and 5861 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Monday, bringing the death toll to 1843, and the caseload to 149539.

A total of 3169 cases were recorded in Amman, 769 in Irbid, including 147 in the northern border district of Ramtha, 437 in Zarqa, 293 in Balqa, 281 in Aqaba, 202 in Jerash, 140 in Madaba, 130 in Karak, 123 in Tafila, 114 in in Ma'an, including 90 infections in southern district of Petra, 102 in Mafraq and 101 in Ajloun, according to the media statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The number of hospitalizations on Monday to receive medical treatment in accredited hospitals reached 283, while 244 patients have left hospitals after recovery, said the joint statement.

The total number of patients who are currently receiving treatment in hospitals has reached 2141, including 454 on intensive care beds, added the government .

Meanwhile, 26475 additional lab Covid-19 tests were conducted, bringing the cumulative number administered since the start of the pandemic to 2210501, the statement pointed out.

The percentage of positive tests on Monday has reached approximately 22.1 percent, the statement noted.

Amid the growing number of local infections, the Ministry of Health has renewed its call on the public to abide by defense orders, as well as adhering to precautionary measures, mainly wearing face masks and avoiding holding gatherings that exceed 20 people.

The ministry also highlighted the "Aman" (Safety) application for smartphones, which alerts users if they come into contact with a COVID-19 positive person, as well as "Sahtak" (your health) application, which provides users with the latest information and news related to COVID-19, in addition to guidelines and warnings pertaining to the Kingdom’s epidemiological situation.
