Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - State Minister for Media Affairs Ali Al Ayed announced Tuesday that a comprehensive lockdown in all of the Kingdom's governorates will continue on Friday and Saturday.
Al Ayed, who is also official government spokesman, said that the decision was based on the recommendation of the Crisis Cell at the National Center for Security and Crisis Management in light of soaring infections with the coronavirus.
He said that the government counts on the citizens' awareness and commitment, urging the public to adhere to safety precautions and prevention measures, including physical distancing and wearing masks.
The minister said that easing the COVID-19 lockdown hinged on the citizens' commitment, as the key to curb the spread of the pandemic.
Al Ayed said that the government, in coordination with the relevant authorities, will continue to take measures to ensure the health and safety of citizens as a top priority repeatedly emphasized by His Majesty King Abdullah II, "while balancing the safety measures and the interests of the various sectors."
He explained that the total 48-hour lockdown hours start at 1am Friday until 1am Sunday, after which the partial curfew hours will begin until 6am in which only authorized persons are allowed to move.
He dismissed as completely not true reports on social media that the government was mulling imposing a 30-day comprehensive lockdown nationwide, saying that the government had held a series of meetings in coordination with the relevant authorities, but "this option had absolutely not been discussed."
