Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday participated in the United Nations Summit on Biodiversity, held virtually on the sidelines of the 75th General Assembly of the United Nations.

The summit saw the participation of a number of heads of state and government, as well as representatives of parliamentarian, governmental, civil society, non-governmental and religious organisations, academics, charities and youth.

In remarks at the summit, King Abdullah warned that "nature itself is now in existential peril, its sustainability for future generations in jeopardy, and the impact on food security threatening humanity’s very existence".

"COVID-19 has taught us all a lesson; we cannot keep neglecting nature and expect no consequences. At no time has practical, principled, global action been needed more, than at present, to save our environment," His Majesty said.

"We must act, for our world is a gift, not for the people of one place and time, but for all generations and all life," the King added.

The summit was held under the theme "urgent action on biodiversity for sustainable development".
