PM directs coronavirus task team to find alternative quarantine site

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Thursday directed a task team for following up on the novel coronavirus to secure an alternative quarantine site for suspected cases of infection that meets global health standards.

Razzaz chaired a meeting which included ministers and government representatives who are part of the task team at the ‎National Center For Security and Crisis Management.

In a press statement, Razzaz said: "We have followed social media posts about quarantine conditions, which do not meet the desired level. "

He reiterated that Jordan is infection-free as confirmed by the World Health Organization, stating: "We have to prepare ourselves for all scenarios, because the virus has spread to neighboring countries in the region."

He underlined the importance of checking the source of information before circulating it, noting that rumors can cause panic in the community. He called on citizens to contact the Ministry of Health in case of any questions and inquiries.

The premier assured that the government, through the Health Ministry, will make daily announcements on the latest coronavirus developments.

Additionally, he underscored the importance of cooperation between ministries, institutions and security apparatuses to prevent the disease from spreading to the Kingdom.

The meeting tackled procedural and preventive measures in this regard, as well as work plans and possible crisis management scenarios.

The action plan focused on issues including: periodic meetings for the task team headed by Health Minister Saad Jaber, information on the spread of the virus, increasing the number of health personnel at border crossings, and boosting preventive and precautionary measures at these areas such as adding more thermal scanners.

They also included: raising awareness about the disease and measures to prevent it and the criteria for allowing the entry of travelers who come from countries where the disease has spread in accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organization.

Discussions touched on the importance of joint action between the Ministry of Health, health care services and institutions in the private sector, and epidemiologists in reviewing protocols for dealing with suspected cases of infection.
