Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi on Monday held talks with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, focusing on ways to enhance cooperation between Jordan and Armenia.

The Armenian prime minister said his country is committed to increasing cooperation with Jordan and highlighted the Kingdom's efforts, spearheaded by His Majesty King Abdullah II, to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East and combat terrorism.

Safadi and his Armenian counterpart announced that the two countries will work to increase economic cooperation and agreed to form a working group to draw up a roadmap to that end.

In press remarks after their talks in Yerevan, both ministers emphasized that ample prospects exist to expand ties in the tourism domain and other key economic sectors, including pharmaceuticals and ICT.

The two ministers said they had discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest to both Jordan and Armenia.

In this context, Safadi touched on the Palestinian issue renewing Jordan's stance that the only way to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is the two-state solution which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on pre-1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Safadi warned that Israel's unilateral actions undermine the two-state solution and all chances for peace. He said that Israel's decision to build new settlements in occupied Hebron is a condemned move that violates international law and undermines all peaceful efforts.

The minister spoke about the Syrian refugee crises and said Jordan has been taking the burden of hosting more than 1.3 Syrians on its territory and will continue to do so until their safe return to their country. He renewed the call for a political solution to the Syrian crisis to restore Syria's peace, security and stability.

In turn, the Armenian foreign minister underlined Jordan's humanitarian role in hosting refugees and said that the Kingdom is a model for moderation and balanced policies.
Mnatsakanyan stressed the importance of relations between his country and the Kingdom, pointing to the historical presence of Armenians in Jordan.
