Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Director General of the Department of Palestinian Affairs, Rafiq Kharfan, on Sunday said Jordan will continue to confront Israeli plans and attacks on Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

During a conference in Cairo for countries overseeing the affairs of Palestinian refugees, Kharfan said the Hashemite custodianship is a "historic duty and responsibility" that Jordan bears, noting it will continue to coordinate with the Palestinian brothers to carry out its religious and historic duties in the protection, care and reconstruction of holy sites.

He pointed out that the Kingdom, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, will support Palestinians until they obtain their legitimate national rights, which is establishing an independent state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He pointed out that the Jordanian government works with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to provide services to Palestinian refugees inside and outside camps.

He reiterated Jordan's support to the agency to continue its work, calling on donor countries to secure financial support for UNRWA to perform its duties according to resolution number 302 of 1949.

Participating in the one-week conference include Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), the Islamic Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ISESCO) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

During the conference, Jordan will present a number of papers on Israeli violations in the occupied Palestinian territories, and the ongoing Israeli attacks on Jerusalem and its holy sites.
